Transform your Day into a Dance choreography
What is new about this workshop, given that we all already know how to dance ballet, modern, floorwork, and jazz, or even mix them and perform lifts with partners? Emeel Safie compares dance to a language that needs to be updated by its current speakers to communicate globally rather than staying local. It is essential to learn new styles and update what you have learned, as in language, richness and up-to-date usage are crucial to express ourselves clearly, effortlessly, smoothly, and even elegantly.
This workshop aims to increase awareness of how we can achieve this by learning MDA dance style, which falls under the contemporary dance category, and by focusing on updating the hidden Elements of the movement.
Led by renowned dancer and choreographer Emeel Safie, this program offers a unique opportunity to learn and share MDA style. This style blends several dance styles, including Modern, Daily Routines, WAZN, Floorwork, and Ballet, providing a holistic approach to improving mental and physical fitness and techniques for participants of any dance background who are interested in learning it.
The workshop focuses on using the hidden Elements of the movement, the 12 joints technique, and key phrases to create dynamic, expressive, and effortless movement. It is open to all levels and styles, including those with experience in ballet, modern, Jazz, floor work, salsa, tango, hip hop, and other styles who are interested in improving their techniques.
During the workshop, participants will learn about the relationship between the mind and body in movement, and how to use this connection to enhance their overall dance performance. They will have the opportunity to create their own contemporary dance pieces and apply the MDA techniques to other dance styles.
We will work in three dimensions: moving and questioning the hidden elements of movement and the 12 joints. In case we need to solve a weight challenge, we will apply the AKBI to overcome it. We will share choreographies from MDA style sessions and guide the participants to create their own contemporary choreographies.
